Cardiology Technology is an emerging field of Allied Health Sciences and the province need to produce a highly qualified professional Cardiac Technologist. The college of Medical Technology (BKMC) Mardan will be able to play a major role in producing professional Cardiac Technologist through a taught course of four-year BS degree program in Cardiology Technology with clinical exposure.
Cardiology Technology is the study of heart, its functions, disorders and diseases associated with cardiovascular system. The students will be taught and trained about invasive and non-invasive cardiac diagnostics, therapeutic and preventive techniques used in cardiovascular sciences and its application in clinical and healthcare settings. In the main subject area, the students will learn in this four years BS degree program beside basic medical sciences, is electrocardiography and stress ECG, echocardiography, electrophysiology, interventional cardiology, preventive cardiology, nuclear cardiology, cardiopulmonary diseases and cardiac surgery and others. During studies the student will be rotated for clinical exposure in different hospitals to learn clinical aspects of different diseases related to cardiology and will utilize their knowledge in diagnostic procedures such as ECG, Echocardiography, Ambulatory B.P monitoring, ECG Event/Loop Monitoring and Angiography and Stress testing etc.
After successful completion of four years BS degree, the Cardiology technologists will have both opportunities in universities and hospitals, as lecturer and clinically to assist invasive procedures such as implanting cardiac catheters during angiographic and angioplasty procedures, inserting pacemakers, assisting electrophysiology procedures and assisting Cardiac surgeons during cardiac surgery.
Cardiology Technologists can also perform and do reporting on noninvasive procedures such as echocardiography, electrocardiography and stress test (ETT). They should be able to work in all public and private sector hospital.
